Tips for Selling Your Book on Amazon

While we are still working on our step by step guide on How to Publish Your Book on Amazon we have collected a few top tips in order to help you make a success of it.

It's super important to have a professional book cover to make a great first impression  to your potential reader. If you can use a professional designer to create it, as unless it looks great online, your book will not sell.

Choosing the right niche category on Amazon for your book is the most important if you want your book to sell. A list of industry-standard categories can be found at www.bisg.org. For example, instead of selecting “Poetry” as your category, drill deeper into your niche and choose “love poetry” or “esoteric poetry” for example. This greatly increases your potential to rank higher and even gives you a chance to achieve the sought after “bestseller” status.

Using the right keywords for your book is essential. The Keyword Planner tool from Google or KDP Rocket can help you find the most used keywords for your niche.  Always keep in mind to use keywords that your target audience would use to search for your book.

Do set up an Amazon Author page ahead of your book launch. Amazon Author pages are a great place to provide your readers with information about yourself and your book. To use its full potential make sure to include your biography, photos, videos (including book trailers if you have any), and links to your your author blog or website and social media channels.

Don't forget to use the “Look Inside” feature for your listing. 'Look inside" is a fantastic way to invite readers to preview a small part of your book before they buy. If you want to have an official book launch on Amazon, begin planning at least 6-8 weeks before your actual launch date. Make sure that your date fits best with your goals and avoid choosing bank holiday's or weekend dates. The best dates for a book launch are usually Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays.

Ensure to collect book reviews ahead of your book launch. You can do this by sending copies of the book to a number of friends or acquaintances, ahead of the launch but after you have created your book listing, and ask them to post their reviews directly on the listing in return. Potential readers are much more likely to buy the book if they see positive reviews on the listing.

After launch monitor the activity and sales statistics on Amazon on the “Author Central” page and adjust keywords if needed.
